Name:Ser Damien Maigny
Birthdate:Jul 11
Location:Ansburg, Free Marches
Damien Maigny hails from Ansburg in the Free Marches, where he's grown up as the son and only child of the Margrave, Ansburg's ruler, and been raised with the expectation that he will take up his mother's place as Margrave when she chooses to retire. While his mother's family has been in Ansburg for generations, he's also highly familiar with several aspects of Orlesian culture, thanks to the influence of his father, a younger son from a minor noble house who came to Ansburg as part of a political marriage pact.

Inspired by his father's tales of Chevaliers and their great deeds, a great deal of devout faith in Andraste, developed at a very early age, and the idea that Templars existed to protect people, Damien's known from an early age that he wanted to be a knight. When he was nine years old, a new squire, from much more humble origins, Gaheriet, came to his family's holdings to be fostered, and to train in the arts of fighting and chivalry. Damien, who usually spent time watching the squires and begging to be trained with them, became especially close friends with then twelve year old Gaheriet, and together they persuaded his father that he was ready to start training as well, with Gaheriet often looking out for his younger, more impetuous friend.

Sometimes he was even successful, but not always. By the time he turned sixteen, Damien had broken his nose three times, gained a significant amount of scar tissue, some of it on his face, and had chosen the greatsword as his weapon of choice. Gaheriet stayed on as one of the knights stationed to protect the holding, though his real job seemed to be protecting his young lord, especially from himself. When Damien decided he was ready to see the world, the two young men went off together, Damien broke his nose another time, and gained some burn scars on his face as part of their adventures and his constant need to throw himself into danger, usually to save some person in distress or other.

It was a relief, to be honest, when Damien settled down a few years later, and opted to start training as a templar, dragging his steadier best friend along as well. Shortly before the events at the Conclave, they completed their Templar training, were named lieutenants, and were assigned to attend the Conclave in service to some senior members of the Order, both to allow those senior members to have clerks in attendance, and for the younger knights to travel with their superiors and gain a greater understanding of the duties of the life they'd undertaken. Still, they weren't important enough to actually be allowed inside of the meeting, though they certainly saw the explosion, and, amidst the chaos that followed the immediate events, met Arielle, another junior officer from Ferelden, who had similarly lost her entire immediate chain of command. Tragedy makes for quick friends sometimes, and you don't survive some things without becoming friends, and this was one of those. Within a very short time, it felt like the three of them had been best friends for years.

Honestly, the only thing to do once the dust was settled and holes had appeared in the sky, was for the three of them to join on with the Inquisition, offering their swords, and skills, to do what they could to keep the darkness at bay. The trio of young officers quickly became known for their willingness to do most any task assigned to them, encouragement and help with new inquisition recruits, and a special desire to be especially helpful to Commander Cullen, who they had quickly come to very much admire. While the commander HAS an actual second, the three lieutenants,(The Three Inseparables, perhaps?:P) are eager to take up other tasks as they are needed, and have become familiar faces around both Haven and Skyhold. While the trio have something of a shared hero crush on Cullen, Damien's also become smitten with Ambassador Josephine, though he know it's rather a hopeless sort of thing.

During the destruction of Haven, Damien's head for stupid chivalry and dauntless courage got him some new and noticeable burns on his face and he refused to leave until the last possible moment. Being separated from his friends when everything went down didn't help either,as the three of them spent part of their rescue efforts during the evacuation being panicked as they struggled to regain contact with each other. Now, having just arrived at Skyhold together, and celebrating the naming of the Inquisitor, the trio are finding out that their effort, dedication and determination go a long way both to keeping spirits high, and to ensuring that they help as many people as they can, as often, and together, as they can.
